Forming first impressions from multiple modalities: a cross-cultural perspective

Project goals

First impression formation about an unknown person frequently determines the way of future interactions with the person. The formation of such impressions is strongly affected by physical appearance, including vocal cues and dynamic behavioral displays varying across social contexts. Within a context of the romantic courtship, it has been suggested that appearance-related perception could be characterized in form of three dimensions – attractiveness, trustworthiness, and dominance. Here we aim to test whether and to what degree these characteristics are perceived through different modalities Thus, by investigating multiple modalities, including facial appearance, vocal and behavioral traits, we aim to explore how perception based on these modalities contribute to the overall impression formation. Further, perception of the three domains may vary cross-culturally, thus we aim to explore these phenomena across several distinct cultures.

Utváření prvního dojmu na základě vícero modalit: mezikulturní perspektiva

  • Annotation in Czech

Utváření prvního dojmu často určuje povahu pozdějšího vztahování se k dané osobě. Vzhled, vokalizace a dynamický behaviorální projev významně ovlivňují charakter mezilidských interakcí.
