Soviet Society and the Prague Spring: Reflection of the Prague Spring and Intervention in Soviet Society

Project goals

The project focuses on Soviet society’s responses to the Prague Spring and the military intervention into Czechoslovakia during 1968-1969. It will analyze archival documents, editions, memoir literature and scholarly publications that describe public opinions in the Western Soviet republics (Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia) and in the Russian center. The resulting database analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively, will enable further classification of diverse activation of the Soviet society challenged by the expansion of neo-Stalinism.

    Projekt se soustřeďuje na reflexi pražského jara a vojenské intervence do Československa v sovětské společnosti 1968/69. Bude analyzovat archivní dokumenty, edic, memoárovou a odbornou literaturu odrážející veřejné mínění v západních svazových republikách (Ukrajině, Litvě, Lotyšsku, Estonsku) a ruském centru. Vzniklá databáze bude analyzována kvantitativními a kvalitativními metodami. Klasifikace a komparace různých projevů aktivizace společnosti umožní lépe pochopit názorovou diferenciaci sovětské společnosti v podmínkách nástupu neostalinismu.
