Innovative ceramic, glassceramic and single crystal scintillators: material tailoring and physical phenomena

Project goals

To prepare and characterize the samples of: 1) ceramic scintillators based on LYSO:Ce and their single crystal analogues with eventual codopant from the group of divalent ions 2) glassceramic scintillators based on PbF2 3) single crystals of Lu0.8Sc0.2BO3 doped with Ce3+ and Pr3+ 4)codoped single crystals of CsI:Tl To describe the proceses of energy transfer and capture in the prepared materials and the role of defects in scintilation mechanism. To compare their characteristics with commercial standardscintillators. To propose and realize technological modifications leading to material optimization.

Inovativní scintilátory na bázi keramik, sklo-keramik a monokrystalů: uzpůsobení materiálu a fyzikální jevy

  • Annotation in Czech

Připravit a charakterizovat vzorky: 1) keramických scintilátorů na bázi LYSO:Ce a jejich monokrystalických analogů s eventuálními kodotacemi dvojvaletními ionty 2)sklokeramik na bázi PbF2 3) monokrystalů Lu0.8Sc0.2BO3 dopovaných Ce3+ a Pr3+ 4) monokrystalů kodopovaného CsI:Tl. Popsat procesy přenosu a záchytu energie ve vyvinutých materiálech a roli defektů ve scintilačním mechanismu. Porovnat charakteristiky vyvinutých materiálů s komerčními standardy. Navrhnout a realizovat technologické modifikace pro optimalizaci materiálů.

  • Project results evaluation

Samples of single crystal, ceramic and powder scintillators based on PbF2, CsI:Tl, silicates and aluminum or multicomponent garnets were delivered by Chinese partner and characterized at the Czech side. Selected results were published in five papers in the international journals. Outside the project plan the silicate glass scintillators were studied and three papers published.
