Trajectories of quality of life by the elderly in early phase of dementia

Project goals

Maintaining of improving the quality of life amongst the elderly with early phase dementia (EwD) is nowadays one of the key aims of health care services. When investigating the quality of life trajectories, it is necessary to examine contributing factors. The aim of the project is to ascertain the profile of quality of life trajectory amongst Czech EwD and to identify the most important factors affecting it. The results will be compared to the results from the elderly without dementia. A quantitative approach, longitudinal prospected design utilising a battery of questionnaires in the Czech language will be used. At the same time, translation and validation of the Czech version of QOL-AD and PDI will be carried out. The group of respondents will include EwD and elderly without dementia living in home environment. Knowledge of the quality of life trajectory and the factors involved will enable interventions to maintain or improve the quality of life of the elderly with early-stage dementia in home environment in future.

Trajektorie kvality života seniorů v počáteční fázi demence

  • Annotation in Czech

Zároveň bude proveden překlad a validizace české verze QOL-AD a PDI. Soubor respondentů bude zahrnovat SsD a seniory bez demence, kteří žijí v domácím prostředí. Znalost trajektorie kvality života a faktorů, které ji ovlivňují, umožní do budoucna intervence na podporu zlepšení nebo udržení kvality života seniorů v počátečním stadiu demence v domácím prostředí.

The professional contribution of the project is important especially for health service providers (economic and social benefits), and also for the field of education and futher research.. The most important result of the project is the PDI (Patient Dignity Questionnaire) evaluation tools, verified and validated in the Czech Republic, which was prepared for use in clinical practice. Since 2020, the PDI has been included in the set of standardized evaluation tools of the UH Olomouc for the medical procedure “Evaluation of the patient's condition with regard to geriatric syndromes (No. 16032 Code of procedures according to VZP). The inclusion of the PDI screening tool in the managed medical documentation of healthcare facilities will enable the control of the effectiveness of preventive and intervention measures to reduce risk factors in connection with psycho-socio-existential comfort of patients during hospitalization and outpatient care, which will benefit patients in the early stages
