Creating Knowledge out of Interlinked Data

The LOD2 IP project aims at realizing the Web of Linked Data by: improving the richness, coherence and quality of data published on the Web, closing the performance gap between relational and RDF data management, establishing trust on the Data Web and generally lowering the entrance barrier for data publishers and users. LOD2 tackles these challenges by developing: 1. tools and methodologies for exposing and managing very large amounts of structured information, 2. a testbed and bootstrap network of high-quality multi-domain, multi-lingual ontologies. 3. machine learning algorithms for (semi-)automatically enriching, interlinking and fusing data from the Web. 4. adaptive tools for exploring, searching, browsing, and authoring of Linked Data. The project showcases the benefits for media & publishing, corporate data intranets and eGovernment. With this LOD2 enlargement proposal we now pursue three goals: - We will round-up the research and technical developments planned in LOD2 with specific contributions identified as missing and important in the first phase of LOD2. This includes in particular a better support for data and schema dynamics, tighter linking between the structured and unstructured Web and the leveraging of crowd intelligence for linkeddata quality improvements. - For the success of LOD2 and the Web of Data as a whole it is crucial to truly internationalize existing RTD (e.g. for non-latin-based, eastern European and Asian languages) in order to achieve a wider applicability of the LOD2 research and development results. - We aim to substantially enforce LOD2?s Open Government Data use case, by extending the coverage to four additional countries and adding a complementary use-case aiming at realizing a market for public procurement based on Linked Data. The partners selected for enlarging the LOD2 consortium are committed and well-qualified to successfully realize and integrate these extensions into the technical and methodological LOD2 framework.
