Optical absorption measurement capabilities are ubiquitous to most NMIs. However, there is a capability gap in the manufacturing, characterisation and use of liquid optical absorption filters, which leads to a lack of traceability in medical measuring devices (MMDs). There are strong demands for the international recognition of quality in medical and metrology services for which NMIs need to provide spectral transmittance and optical absorbance traceable to SI units through liquid absorbance filters. The aim of this project is to support the build-up of metrological capabilities in developing measurement systems, characterisation, and use of liquid absorbance filters in the field of photometry and radiometry in emerging NMIs. The project’s goal is to enable the emerging NMIs to provide metrological traceability of measurement results obtained by high-level calibration/inspection of MMDs, as well as to provide liquid absorbance filters as reference materials to national and international stakeholders with the lowest possible measurement uncertainty. The outputs of this work will allow compliance with European Union Directives for MMDs.
