Project results evaluation
In the course of the EXTEMIT-K project, the research infrastructure was modernized and the equipment needed for further research was acquired. There was assembled a research team, which was focused on the study of genetics, metabolomics and chemical communication of bark beetles. The team established extensive international cooperation. Research in the project helped to better understand the relationships between genetic information and chemical communication of the spruce bark beetle and other investigated species, new knowledge was gained in the field of using drones to identify attacked trees and in the mechanism of tree attack depending on natural conditions and physiological reaction. The findings helped in solving the consequences of the bark beetle calamity and were also applied in the measures taken by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Czech Republic in managing its impact on forestry and society.
