Phytoextraction biomass disposal - an unsolved problem

Project goals

Potentially toxic metals such as Cd or Zn accumulated in the biomass of hyperacumulating and/or  highly accumulating plants are bound into different parts of the organic matrix in different extent and direct extraction of these metals is not straightforward. The proposed aim of the project is to grow different plant species with the ability to accumulate metals in above ground biomass mainly willows and to develop procedure degrading organic matrix of the metal accumulating plants, into the forms, wheremetals could be effectively extracted and recovered for reuse as an raw materials or  stabilized and safely deposited.

    Potenciálně toxické kovy jako Cd nebo zinek akumulované v biomase  hyperakumulativních nebo vysoce akumulativních rostlin jsou vázány do různých částí organické matrice v různém rozsahu a přímá extrakce těchto kovů není snadná. Podstatou navrhovaného projektu je pěstování různých druhů rostlin schopných akumulovat kovy v biomase nadzemní části, hlavně vrby, a vyvinout proceduru degradace organické matrice biomasy obsahující kovy ve formách umožňujících efektivní extrakci kovů a  následnou recyklaci, respektive stabilizaci a bezpečné uložení.
