The History of German Punctuation Theory

Project goals

The main goal of this project is to write and publish a monograph on the history of German punctuation theory from the fifteenth century to the present day. Certain aspects that have not been discussed sufficiently in research so far are to be included in this monograph: i) the interdependent development of punctuation theory and syntax theory; ii) the integration of punctuation theories with general developments in the field of linguistic theory (primarily rhetoric and grammar); iii) the cultural-historical background of punctuation theories.
