The Migration of the Roma from the Czech and the Slovak Republics to the United Kingdom and Canada
Project goals
The aim of the project is to describe and analyze recent Romani migrations from the Czech and the Slovak Republics to the United Kingdom and Canada. The attention is paid to the role of kinship structures in the organization and the process of migration and effects of the migrations on inter-group and kinship relations, changes of migrants` identity including the change of language situation. The research will use the advantage of drawing on previous knowledge of the communities in focus. This will allow for contextualizing the current observations with the pre-migration situation. The design of the research based in two Western countries - one European and one overseas – will also enable for the comparison from the perspective of the target country. The resulting publication will consist of case studies, comparisons and subsequent compendious analysis of Romani migration specifics. Further outputs will include six articles summarizing the principal research results in peer-reviewed journals and a considerable amount of valuable language material in Romani.

Migrace Romů z České a Slovenské republiky do Velké Británie a Kanady

Záměrem projektu je popsat a analyzovat soudobé romské migrace z České a Slovenské republiky do Velké Británie a Kanady. Hlavní pozornost je kladena na roli příbuzenských struktur v organizaci migračních procesů a důsledky migrací na meziskupinové a příbuzenské vztahy, proměnu identity migrantů, včetně změny jazykové situace. Podstatnou výhodou projektu je, že navazuje na předchozí znalost sledovaných komunit. To umožní dát do souvislosti současná pozorování s předmigrační situací. Pozorování ve dvou západních zemích – jedné evropské a jedné zámořské - umožní komparaci i z hlediska cílových zemí migrace. Výsledná publikace se bude skládat z případových studií, komparací a následné souhrnné analýzy specifik romských migrací. Mezi dalšími výstupy projektu bude šest článků shrnujících hlavní výzkumné výsledky v recenzovaných časopisech a množství cenného jazykového materiálu v romštině k dalšímu využití.

The publication plan of the project was only partially accomplished. The publication plan envisaged 8 publications including 3 Jimp and 5 Jrec publications. The researcher submitted 7 publications, one of which was Jimp, 1 Jsc, 2 Jneimp, 2 Jrec and 1 chapter in the book. Two Jrec publications do not correspond to the objectives and methodological procedure of the approved project.
