The oldest vascular land plants and palynomorphs from the Silurian-Lower Devonian of the Barrandian area, Czech Republic

Project goals

This project is focused on documentation and interpretation of the oldest vascular plants in the Barrandian Area. This project includes study of recently discovered Cooksonia, considered the oldest vascular plant in the world (from 425-7 Myr, Wenlock of the Motol Formation). More new material is available, including new taxa of Silurian and early Devonian plant macro-remains, for detailed descriptions and interpretations in light of modern palaeobotanical research. The macro remains will be studied in the context of their environment, based on detailed micropalaeontological studies.
