Monofunctionalized bambusurils and their supramolecular properties

Project goals

Bambusurils are macrocycles with ability to bind various inorganic and organic anions with exceptional affinity and selectivity in different solvents. Until today, only persubstituted bambusurils have been reported which limits selective modification of these macrocycles and subsequently their further applications. Our project will investigate approaches leading to monofunctionalized bambusurils. The bambusurils having one functional group will be further modified and supramolecular properties of resulting conjugates will be studied in order to demonstrate their application potential in e.g. anion transport and extraction.

Monofunkcializované bambusurily a jejich supramolekulární vlastnosti

  • Annotation in Czech

Do dnešního dne byly připraveny pouze persubstituované bambusuril, což výrazně omezuje selektivní modifikaci těchto makrocyklů a následně i jejich další použití.

  • Project results evaluation

The project has resulted in 6 papers in prestigious journals. A methodology was developed providing monosubstituted bambusurils in multigram quantities, which enables their use in supramolecular systems. An interesting result is represented by the fact that some simple bambusurils can be used very effectively for the extraction of the dicyanoaurate anion, which refers to their use in gold mining.
