Properties of superconductors in the terahertz frequency region

Project goals

The aim of this project is to acquire thorough information how vortex dynamics affects optical properties of various superconducting materials. From the theoretical point of view it will require refinement of the present theory of vortex dynamics. From the experimental point of view we shall collect the data on the magneto-transmission of superconducting samples in the terahertz frequency region as a function of the temperature and the applied magnetic field. From the acquired experimental data and withthe help of newly deduced theoretical relations we shall try to determine the effective vortex mass for the studied materials.

    Vlastnosti supravodičů v oboru terahertzových kmitočtů

    Cílem projektu je získat podrobné informace o tom, jak dynamika vírů ovlivňuje optické vlastnosti supravodivých materiálů. Z teoretického hlediska je nutné upřesnit stávající, námi navrženou teorii dynamiky vírů. Z hlediska experimentu je třeba proměřitzávislost transmise supravodivých tenkých vrstev na teplotě a magnetickém poli v oboru terahertzových kmitočtů. Ze získaných dat a s pomocí nově odvozených teoretických relací se pokusíme určit efektivní hmotnost vírů ve studovaných supravodičích.

    Circular polarizer for far infrared radiation was constructed and tested. Dependence of transmission on temperature and magnetic field for linearly and circularly polarized radiation with terahertz frequency was measured for several superconducting NbN thin films.
