Crystal engineering of hydrogen bonded materials for non-linear optics
Project goals
Main goal of the proposed project is the preparation and study of novel crystalline materials for non-linear optics. Target group of compounds can be defined as salts of selected organic cations (carriers of NLO properties), which are properly fixed by anions or their networks in crystal structures (via hydrogen bonds). Unsaturated molecules with system of delocalized electrons e.g. nitrogen containing heteroaromatic bases or Y-aromatic molecules (derivatives of guanidine and biguanide) are selected aspromising cations. Besides of well-established inorganic oxy-acids, dicarboxylic acids (especially chiral tartaric and malic acids) will be employed for the formation of H-bonded anionic networks. Novel materials will be characterized by the methods of X-ray diffraction, vibrational, electron and NMR spectroscopy and DSC. Optical characterization will be mainly focused on efficiency of second harmonic generation. Obtained novel materials can be technically utilized in the field of optical computing anddata storage and telecommunications.
