Impact of endosymbiotic bacteria on the predatory capacity of spiders in agroecosystems under pesticide treatment

Project goals

Pesticides are detrimental not only for pests but also for their natural enemies. Among the most important predators in agroecosystems are spiders. Endosymbiotic bacteria that live in spider bodies affect aspects of spider ecology and behaviour that are crucial for regulation of pests. Moreover, endosymbionts seem to influence the ability of hosts to overcome stress from toxic compounds. Therefore, it is important to learn about these symbiotic interactions and the human impacts, like application of agrochemicals that disturb them. We aim to document the impact of endosymbiotic bacteria on the ability of spiders to re-colonize agroecosystems, kill/consume prey, and to their resistance/sensitivity to pesticides. Further, we will study the impact of pesticides to the species diversity/abundance of endosymbiont communities in spider bodies.

Vliv endosymbiotických bakterií na predační kapacitu pavouků v agroekosystémech ošetřovaných pesticidy
