Mixing Body and Soul

Project goals

The project investigates the concept of balanced mixture (krasis) which played an important role in the intellectual discussions on human nature and society in the Classical Era of ancient Greece. We shall focus in particular on the Hippocratic authors, Plato, and Aristotle and inquiry into the specific ways of how they introduce and employ the concept in their accounts of human health and nature on the one hand, and in their discussions of soul, ethics and politics on the other.
