Novel MXene-based composite nanomaterials for tissue engineering
Annotation in Czech
MXenes are emerging nanomaterials based on carbides, nitrides or carbonitrides of transition metals (e.g. Ti3C2Tx), which are promising not only for various industrial technologies but also for biomedical applications. We will focus on the use of MXenes for surface modification of planar or porous 3D-printed metallic implants or for incorporation into polymeric substrates, namely for the biological synthesis of MXene-loaded bacterial nanocellulose (BNC). MXenes will be prepared with different surface terminations to regulate cell adhesion, growth and differentiation, as well as with antibacterial activity to prevent bacterial biofilm formation on the implants. The physical and chemical properties (i.e. composition, morphology, wettability, charge) of the prepared materials will be investigated using microscopic, spectroscopic, goniometric and z-scan techniques. Pre-vascularization of porous BNC-based scaffolds with mesenchymal stem cells and endothelial cells will be developed. Potential cell damage and internalization of MXenes by cells will also be studied.
