Project name in Czech
Tailoring the interfacial properties of bio-inspired fluorine-free hydrophobic membranes for improved separation of gases and liquids
Annotation in Czech
A critical aspect of replacing hydrophobic fluorinated materials in membrane separation processes is finding a functional, comparable, cost-effective solution. This project proposes innovative nanoengineering solutions for enhancing membrane hydrophobicity via the synergic combination of bio-inspired, fluorine-free solutions and advanced stimuli-responsive magnetic nanomaterials. Fabricated membranes with tailored morphology/surface properties will consist of fibrous (polymer or CNT) supports and dense polymer surface layers. The controlled surface modification by magnetic MOF/ZIF nanoparticles with specific shapes/structures will be achieved by covalent bonding or grafting under an oriented magnetic field. The versatility and applicability will be tested for water-oil separation, biofilm inhibition (biofouling), and biogas upgrading model systems where target component preferential transport or repellency is a key factor in achieving the success and efficiency of the separation and inhibition processes.
