Effect of chemotherapy to cognitive functions in children and adolescents.
Project goals
Treatment of cancer in childhood should be followed with several long term side effects and consequences, important for quality of life of survivors. In order to prevent or to minimalise these late effects,we have to detect all risk factors playing rolein aetiology of late consequences of chemotherapy. The target of our project - to study and specify deficit of cognitive functions after previous chemotherapy, which is known, but not based on evidence.Our aim is to verify when and how chemotherapy can altered cognitive functions of childhood and adolescents who have been treated in Pediatric Oncology Clinic, Medical Faculty Hospital Brno. In our project we advice to evaluate level of cognitive functions before starting anticancer treatment and to repeat the same evaluation after the fixed well defined time interval after completion of chemotherapy. Vliv chemoterapie na kognitivní funkce u dětí a dospívajících

Léčba nádorových onemocnění u dětí s sebou přináší řadu vedlejších nežádoucích účinků, s jejímiž následky se bývalý onkologicý pacient musí často vyrovnávat po celý život. Abychom mohli těmto pozdním následkům léčby účinně předcházet, potřebujeme je nejprve důkladně popsat a seznámit se s rizikovými faktory jejich vzniku. V našem projektu se zaměřujeme stále častěji prezentovaný problém, jehož vztah k chemoterapii není zatím spolehlivě empiricky dokázán. Jedná se o deficit v oblasti rozumových schopností. Záměrem našeho projektu je proto snaha tento problém osvětlit, tzn. ověřit v jaké míře a jakým způsobem protinádorová chemoterapie ovlivňuje kognitivní funkce dětí a dospívajících léčených na KDO FN Brno. V rámci projektu navrhujeme vyšetřeníúrovně kognitivních funkcí našich pacientů před zahájením onkologické léčby a totéž vyšetření s pevným časovým odstupem po léčbě.
