Czech political catholicism 1848-2005
Project goals
The project proposed below consists in creating a synthetic study focused on history and development of Catholic-oriented political parties (and partisanship) in the Czech Lands from 1840s to the present. Authors intend to research prerequisites of the emergence of major Catholic movements - Catholic-National and Christian-Social -and to reflect the development of Catholic political parties within the political system of the Czech Lands (or Cisleithania and Czechoslovakia, as the case may be). They willalso discuss the striving after unity, which materialized between the wars when the Czechoslovak People's Party was founded. The importance of the Party as well as its role and place within the context of political and social issues, especially in the periods of 1918-1938, 1945-1948, and 1948-1989, will be put under scrutiny. Consequently, the authors will survey developments of Czech political Catholicism after 1989 (or 1992), analysing a phenomenon of the Christian-Democratic Union -Czechoslovak

Podstatou navrhovaného projektu je vytvoření syntézy vývoje českých katolických politických stran (katolického politického stranictví) od 90. let 19. století do současnosti. Výzkum se zaměří na hledání předpokladů pro zformování základních katolických politických proudů (katolicko-národního a křesťansko-sociálního) s reflexí geneze a vývoje politických stran v českém (předlitavském, československém) politickém systému s přihlédnutím k ideji jednoty, která se realizovala v podstatě v meziválečném obdobív podobě Československé strany lidové. Důraz bude položen na hledání místa, role a významu této strany (v širším kontextu politického a společenského vývoje) v časových úsecích let 1918-1938, 1945-1948 a 1948-1989. Na tyto okruhy naváže výzkum politického katolicismu po roce 1989, resp. 1992, s analýzou KDU-ČSL.
