Sources of the European Mathematics
Project goals
The project Sources of European Mathematics focuses on research in the history and philosophy of mathematics. It accommodates the both traditions of mediating the historical mathematical knowledge developed in our region ? descriptional and translational? as well as both traditions of investigating the history of mathematics ? the philosophical and mathematical. It aims introduce the new methodological principals and to present the history of mathematics as the history of ideas and the intellectual history.Thus the project Sources of European Mathematics will focus on three main areas:restoring historical mathematical knowledge - the systematic research of a concrete period or personality in the history of mathematics (theme lectures, presentations, papers and monographs)mediating original mathematical texts ? critical translations with commentaries of those original mathematical texts which were crucial for a concrete period of the development of mathematical knowledge, or those which caused the change of mathematical opinionmodelling historical reconstructions of mathematical discoveries ? the first two objectives, however, are just the preparatory steps for the main goal of the project, which is modelling the historical reconstructions of mathematical discoveries (theme lectures, presentations, papers and monographs).

Projekt Prameny evropské matematiky se zaměřuje na studium historie a filosofie matematiky. Navazuje na dva základní přístupy k tomuto druhu zkoumání rozvinuté v našich zemích - deskriptivní a překladatelský - stejně jako usiluje o sjednocení dvou základních pohledů na dějiny matematiky - filosofický a matematický. Jeho cílem je vytvořit prostor pro systematické bádání v této oblasti uplatňující nové metodologické principy zkoumání v dějinách vědy a usilující o výklad dějin matematiky jakožto intelektuálních dějin a dějin idejí. Projekt se zaměřuje na tři hlavní oblasti:zprostředkování historických matematických znalostí - systematický výzkum matematické práce konkrétní historické osobnosti nebo stavu matematických znalostí konkrétního historického období v dobových souvislostech (monografie, studie v časopisech a sbornících, prezentace, přednášky)zprostředkovávání pramenných textů - kritické překlady či komentáře k těm pramenným textům z dějin matematiky, které sehrály klížovou roli v některém historickém období vývoje matematiky nebo zásadním způsobem ovlivnily její další vývojhistorické rekonstrukce - První dva body (pochopení stavu matematických znalostí v určitém historickém období a seznámení s pramennými texty) však jsou pouze předpokladem prohlavní předmět bádání, a sice vytváření tzv. historických rekonstrukcí, jež jsou nezbytnou součástí zkoumání historie matematiky jakožto intelektuálních dějin či dějin idejí.
