Renaissance glass and outset of the Baroque glass-making in the Central Danube Region
Project goals
The research involves the evaluation of the Renaissance and Baroque glass from four fields of resources: archeological findings (with focus on: Brno, Bratislava respective Vienna), museum collections, written documents and glassworks. The detailed typology of glass together with chemical analysis of glass provide principle information for the determination of the distribution circles and glass trade. The systematic analysis of findings shall specify the technological development of production in the direction from the Renaissance glass to the Baroque production. In case of Baroque, the archeological findings shall prove the real scope of the produced types of things of the usual daily consumption. A part of the evaluation will be also following the glass utilization in individual classes of the society. The main outcome of the research will be a monograph.

Práce předpokládá vyhodnocení renesančního a barokního skla ze čtyř oblastí pramenů: archeologických nálezů (s důrazem na Brno, Bratislavu a Vídeň), muzejních sbírek, písemných dokladů a sklářských hutí. Detailní typologie skla společně s chemickými analýzami skla poskytnou zásadné informace pro stanovení distribučních okruhů a obchodu se sklem. Systematické analýzy nálezů upřesní technologický vývoj výroby směřující od renesančního skla k barokní produkci. V případě baroka archeologické nálezy doloží skutečný rozsah vyráběných typů předmětů běžné denní spotřeby. Součástí vyhodnocení bude rovněž sledování používání skla v jednotlivých společenských vrstvách. Práce bude směřovat k vypracování textu monografie a přípravě materiálu k výstavním účelům.

Project results evaluation
The quality of the project varied significantly. We have to value the scientific contribution to the study of the typology and technology of common glass production. In the course of the project, however, certain failures occurred; for example, some of the published results are unrelated to the subject of the project. The announced monograph in english has been presented.
