Greenwashing Regulation Challenges in the European Union, the Czech Republic, and Poland: Consumer Protection Amid Green and Digital Transitions
Annotation in Czech
Despite recent and upcoming reforms, the EU regulatory framework remains fragmented and poorly aligned with the complexity and scale of greenwashing, especially in Member States with limited enforcement capacity or divergent priorities. This Project (acronym: GRETA) investigates how Poland and the Czech Republic can align national consumer protection regimes with the demands of green and digital transitions. Greenwashing serves as a test case for evaluating the coherence and adaptability of EU consumer law. Using a comparative legal approach, the project will examine how EU rules are implemented, interpreted, and enforced in both countries, focusing on enforcement challenges, regulatory fragmentation, and legal responsiveness. The Project combines doctrinal, comparative, and empirical methods to identify best practices and develope actionable, evidence-based recommendations. Its findings will support better regulatory integration, enhance enforcement, and contribute to fairer markets, increased consumer trust, and more effective sustainability governance across the EU.
