Analysis of optical elements with variable parameters and their possible applications

Project goals

The project deals with very actual problems. Nowadays, optical systems are mostly composed of optical elements (lenses, prisms, mirrors etc.) with fixed optical parameters that cannot be changed. However, there is a rapid development of research in the field of optical elements with variable optical properties. These elements have some advantages compared to classic optical elements mainly it is the possibility of simplification of present optical systems and design of unconventional variable optical systems. An important area, where these elements can be used is optical metrology. We can expect that present rigid optical systems will be replaced by modern flexible optical systems that enable to perform measurements in much wider range than it is possible nowadays. This project will focus on theoretical analysis of selected optical elements with variable optical parameters and in the experimental phase on practical applications of these elements especially in the field of optical metrology.
