Project goals

The Oath-taking routes of the Czech rulers to Breslau in the late Midlle Ages and Early Modern Times (1437-1617)The aim of the project is an analysis of royal oath-taking routes to Breslau in the late Midlle Ages and Early Modern Times. The amount of sources increases at the Late Middle Ages and gives us especially a thorough depiction of some aspects of the voyage. The project directs attention to the issues connected with the extensive preparations to the king´s arrival in Breslau, ritual and symbolicaspects of the entry with its particular stages. It concentrates on genesis and transformation of entry ceremonies and describes futher events which occured during the sovereign´s stay in the city, like the oath of Breslau and Silesian estates, celebrations etc. Analysis of circumstances of solemn entrances of Bohemian kings to Breslau could reveal innovations used in Early Modern times by their oath-taking routes to the Silesian metropolis. Analyses of single topics will be summarized and put into thecontext of history of the country in a monograph.
