Analysis of proteome of cereals exposed to abiotic stresses

Project goals

The risk of frost damage to cereals grown within the Czech Republic remains a real threat for causing economic losses, despite the global warming phenomenon. Mild winters (with longer temporary periods of higher temperatures and minimal snow cover) stillpresent the serious risk of frost damage to those cereals of low frost tolerance. Lower precipitation and higher temperatures during the plant's vegetative growth have seriously decreased the yield of those cereals, which are of low tolerance against drought. It is necessary to focus research on the mechanisms of both frost- and drought-tolerance in cereals. It is possible to characterize the components of plants' responses to cold or drought, by analyses of the changes in the proteom. The project is focused on the identification of differences in the accumulation of proteins extracted from wheat and barley, exposed to cold and drought by proteomic methods (e.g., 2D-DIGE, MS). These proteins could represent an important part of the plant's stress response, and could also be tested as potential markers of their stress tolerance.

Analýza proteomu obilovin vystavených abiotickým stresům

  • Annotation in Czech

Zjistit rozdíly v proteomu různě odolných odrůd ječmene a pšenice vystavených chladu či suchu. Proteiny, jejichž akumulace se bude signifikantně lišit, budou identifikovány pomocí hmotnostní spektrometrie a následně bude studována jejich funkce v procesech odpovědi rostlin na daný stres.
