Optical methods as a tool for the studies in FHB complex on wheat
Project goals
A characteristic feature of Fusarium head blight (FHB) of winter wheat is coincidence of more Fusarium species and dynamical changes in the ratio of their occurrence during ontogeny of winter wheat. Relations among content of the most frequent fusarium mycotoxin deoxynivalenol (DON) in grain, visually assessable kernel damage, and FHB infection of heads are influenced by number of factors, especially by weather conditions in the growing season, prevalent Fusarium species and agronomic factors. The aim of the project is to use methods of computer-based image analysis, reflectance measurements at responsive wavelengths, and detection of chlorophyll fluorescence of heads and kernels for interaction study in FHB complex in winter wheat. Parameters obtainedby these methods will be correlated to visual assessment of FHB incidence and resulting mycotoxins content in wheat samples regarding influence of variety and agronomic factors. The submitted project comes out of the need to study problems emerged in conducting a NAZV project QG60047 more deeply.
