Between Enchantment and the Everyday: How Individualized Spirituality Shapes Practitioners' Lives and Their Place in Society

  • Annotation in Czech

This project examines the impact of alternative spirituality on practitioners' daily lives and on their relationship with mainstream society. Individualized spirituality increasingly shapes contemporary Western culture, also permeating domains traditionally considered secular. Yet, its influence on personal relationships, professional life, and social engagement remains insufficiently explored. Building on the author’s long-term fieldwork, the research will focus on magical, shamanic, and neopagan practices. It will integrate traditional qualitative methods, such as participant observation and semi-structured interviews, with participatory and digital ethnography, exploring online communities and discursive frameworks on social media. The study will provide new insights into the dynamics of alternative spirituality in modern society, contributing fresh perspectives to academic discussions in anthropology, sociology, and religious studies.
