Biodivesity dynamics in the Šárka Formation (Ordovician of the Prague Basin): faunal analysis, paleoecologic, biogeographic and stratigraphic aspects
Project goals
The proposed project is focused on the complex paleoecologic and stratigraphic study of fauna from the Šárka Formation (Middle Ordovician of the Prague Basin, Czech Republic). The aim of the project is to revise available published data, to collect new material from natural and temporary outcrops and, above all, to make a modern investigation of the fossil associations of the Šárka Formation. Interpretations of stratigraphical-paleoecological position of regions ("segments") of the Prague Basin where the Šárka Formation occurs is another goal of the project. Revisions of the main index groups of graptolites, trilobites and ichnofossils are also planned. Paleogeographic correlations, especially with other regions of peri-Gondwana, will be studied. Results will be published in a scientific journal. The project is a contribution to the IGCP 497 "The Rheic Ocean".

Navrhovaný projekt je zaměřen na paleoekologicko-stratigrafické zhodnocení fauny šáreckého souvrství. Projekt si klade za cíl kriticky zrevidovat stávající informace, shromáždit nový materiál z příležitostných i stálých výchozů a především zhodnotit fosilní asociace šáreckého souvrství ve světle nových poznatků a metod. Dalším cílem je interpretace stratigraficko-paleoekologické pozice jednotlivých oblastí výskytu šáreckého souvrství. Hlavním očekávaným výsledkem je stanovení jednotlivých fosilní společenstev a model jejich výskytu v čase i prostoru s aspekty vývoje pražské pánve. Součástí výzkumu budou i dílčí revize některých stratigraficky významných skupin graptolitů, trilobitů a ichnofosílií. Pozornost bude rovněž věnována korelacím v rámci peri-Gondwany. Výstupem by měly být publikace v odborném tisku. Navržený projekt je součástí mezinárodního projektu IGCP 497 "The Rheic Ocean" (Rheický oceán).

Project results evaluation
The studied assemblages of the Šárka Formation display a complicated trophic structure and spatial distribution. They were used for new paleogeographic models of the Prague Basin. Their stratigraphic value is influnced by endemism in critical intervals.
