Experimental and Numerical Analysis of Composite Glass Structures
Project goals
In the last few years, different types of composite constructions, consisting of glass and another material, are analyzed or even newly developed focusing on an optimal structural interaction between both materials. The objective aim of the project is toinvestigate behaviour of steel-glass beam under the loading considering residual load capacity, the post fracture behaviour, lateral and torsional stability. The methods of project solution will be based on research coming out of theoretical analysis, experiments a numerical modeling (using finite elements method) followed by verification, evaluation and comparison of results and parametric studies. The results will be applicable as theoretical background of technical documents for design of compositebeams and will be published in impacted journals. The improvement of scientific knowledge in the field of actual behaviour of composite glass elements and its interaction within the structural system will be the basic result of project solution.

Annotation in Czech
Studie vlivu ztráty příčné a torzní stability na únosnost kompozitního nosníku a zavedení tohoto vlivu v případě potřeby do návrhového modelu. Připravení jednoduché výpočetní pomůcky pro stavební praxi, která by zjednodušila možnost návrhu a dimenzování těchto kompozitních nosníků.

Project results evaluation
The project deals with the research of hybrid beams, consisting of steel flanges and glass web bonded by polymer adhesive. The web has to be divided into several parts in case of long beams as well as with respect to the safety requirements and robustness. Results of full-scale experiments were used for verification of numerical and analytical model based on truss analogy.
