Methods for validating numerical prediction of convective precipitation ? the evaluation of the efficiency of physical parameterizations
Project goals
The project aims at compilation and testing new methods for the verification of high resolution prediction of convective precipitation. The verification methods will be applied to evaluating the efficiency of convection parameterization and microphysicsparameterization in numerical weather prediction models.

Project name in Czech
Verifikace numerické předpovědi konvektivních srážek - hodnocení účinnosti fyzikálních parametrizací.
Annotation in Czech
Cílem projektu je sestavit nové prostorové metody verifikace předpovědi konvektivních srážek s vysokým rozlišením. Metody budou využíty při testování účinnosti stávajících i nových schemat parametrizace konvekce a parametrizace mikrofyziky v modelech numerické předpovědi počasí.

Project results evaluation
Spatial fuzzy verification techniques were applied to precipitation forecasts from several NWP models including the ALADIN CZ. Merged radar- and ground-based precipitation values were the verification data. Test data were prepared in collaboration with the CHMI. Enhanced model resolution was useful for the improved forecasting of heavy rainfall values causing flash flooding.
