Optical viscometer utilizing the bend loss of the vibrating fiber
Project goals
The project deals with design, analysis and testing of a fluid viscosity measuring device using the bend loss of the vibrating fiber. The main purposes of the project are to design and analyze the macro optical viscometer and based on the accumulated experience to design the prototype of the micro/macro optical viscometer for real application use. The experimental facility of the University of Washington and the Institute of Thermomechanics of AS CR, v.v.i. , and the theoretical experience of the analogous problem nvestigation, which has been accumulated in S. S. Kutateladze Institute of Thermophysics SB RAS, Institute of Applied Mechanics, National Taiwan University, Institute of Physics and Research Center of Applied Science, Academia Sinica at Taipei, Taiwan and John Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA underlies the project.

Project name in Czech
Mikro-optický snímač viskozity kapalin, využívající ztráty intensity světla při ohybu kmitajícího vlákna

Project results evaluation
Physical analysis and mathematical statement of the problem have been carried out. Analytical solution for the optical free-fix fiber vibration with dumping was found. Relation between the logarithm decrement of damping and resonance frequency was derived. Four papers were published. A prototype was developed and tested.
