    The team developed artificial functional self-propelled nano- and microdevices (called microswimmers) which responded to external stimuli and are capable of tactic behavior, autonomous behavior in a complex system and performing ‘senseand-act’ tasks. These nano- and microswimmers harvested energy from the environment, converted it into motion, and performed coordinated actions. Researchers gained a fundamental understanding of the propulsion and tactic behavior of the swimmers, and their swarming behavior.They demonstrated proof-of-concept of the utility of this new technology using sensing and environmental remediation examples.
