Prague infrastructure for structural biology and metabolomics II
Project goals
The project mainly stresses the application of the acquired technologies in the scientific-research activities, the development of knowledge and findings of the Centre’s scientific workers, and the creation of new job positions for highly qualified scientists in the given fields. The main aims of the project are therefore the following: Providing for a long-term operational sustainability of the Centre, development of an effective utilization of the centre within the framework of the scientific community and the private sector by means of implementing joint projects, increasing the Centre’s share in transferring the scientific knowledge into the industrial sector, providing for human resources for the Centre’s operation, increasing the significance of the Centre as a training platform for students, scientific workers and private sector workers, further development of the workers’ mobility, which will not only strengthen the Centre’s cooperation with other subjects, but also enable acquiring new experience and supporting the interdiciplinarity of cooperation between the individual parts of the centre. During the realization of the scientific contents of the individual partial scientific programmes of the project, great emphasis will be placed on the interdisciplinarity. When resolving the issues under examination, the metabolomic, structural-biologic and imaging methods will be combined, using the mass spectrometry.

"Projekt klade hlavní důraz na uplatnění pořízených technologií ve vědecko-výzkumné činnosti, rozvoj znalostí a poznatků vědeckých pracovníků Centra a vytvoření nových pracovních míst pro vysoce kvalifikované vědce v daných oborech. Hlavními cíli projektu tedy jsou: zajištění dlouhodobé provozní udržitelnosti Centra, rozvoj efektivního využívání centra v rámci vědecké komunity a soukromé sféry prostřednictvím implementace společných projektů, posílení podílu Centra na transferu vědeckých znalostí do průmyslové sféry, zajištění lidských zdrojů pro provoz Centra, posílení významu Centra jako školicí platformy pro studenty, vědecké pracovníky a pracovníky soukromého sektoru, další rozvoj mobility pracovníků, která povede nejen k posílení spolupráce Centra s jinými subjekty, ale také k získávání nových zkušeností, podpora interdisciplinarity kooperací jednotlivých částí centra. Při realizaci vědecké náplně jednotlivých dílčích vědeckých programů projektu bude velmi významný důraz kladen na interdisciplinaritu. Pro řešení zkoumané problematiky budou kombinovány metabolomické, strukturně-biologické a zobrazovací metody s využitím hmotnostní spektrometrie."

Project results evaluation
We have established a new clinical field called Infection Metallomics. It is an original approach based on early, specific, sensitive and noninvasive detection of metallophores in urine or breath condensate in critically ill patients. These molecular signatures are secreted by pathogen into a host at high frequencies. In the affected body fluids the disease biomarkers are then detected by advanced mass spectrometry techniques combined with isotopic data filtering. Commencing from 2018 the leading Czech hospitals have contributed to our research with their ethical staments. The general hospitals are the dominating users of our research. The noninvasive application enables the safe patients sampling including those with covid-19.
