Embedding Antiviral Nanoparticles in Water and/or Air for Cleaning the Environment

Project goals

The objectives of this proposal are: 1) to extend the application of the Ag-MUS and Au-MUS to other viral airborne infections (e.g. coxsackie virus, reovirus, adenovirus), water-borne infections (e.g. norovirus, rotavirus) and blood- and body fluid-borne viral sexually transmitted infections (e.g. HIV, HBV, ZIKA) and examine whether these viruses belonging to the HS-utilizing viruses as the HSVs will be inactivated by the NPs. 2) coating the Ag-MUS and Au-MUS on textiles, membranes and medical devices (condoms) preparing various applicative products such a mouth masks, active water membranes.

    Cíle projektu jsou následující: (1) Rozšířit aplikaci stříbrných a zlatých MUS nanočástic na další virové infekce šiřitelné vzduchem (např. coxsackie virus, adenovirus, reovirus), virové infekce šiřitelné vodou (např. norovirus, rotavirus) a šiřitelné krví a tělními tekutinami (např. HIV, HBV, Zika virus) a zjistit, pokud patří mezi viry využívající heparan sulfát jako např. HSV, zda budou inaktivovány nanočásticemi. (2) Potáhnout stříbrnými a zlatými nanočásticemi s MUS ligandy textil, membrány, zdravotnická zařízení a připravit různé aplikované produkty např. zdravotnické roušky, aktivní vodní membrány, bezpečnější kondomy.

  • Project results evaluation

    Project enabled the formation of cooperation between IOCB Prague and Bar-Ilan University in Israel that led to successful fulfilment of the aims of the project. We found out, which viruses can be suppressed with the help of modified nanoparticles. We prepared material coated with nanoparticles that was able to eliminate SARS-CoV-2. Two scientific articles were published and one dissertation thesis was worked out during the duration of the project.
