Effect of Fire on Soil Organic Matter and the Community of Soil Transforming Invertebrates

  • Annotation in Czech

The frequency of forest fires has been increasing due to the undergoing global climate change, with necessary consequences for local ecosystems. This project will study the relative effect of forest fires on functional groups of soil biota, consequent changes in accumulation of soil organic matter and the ability of soil communities to recover after disturbance. We focus on short-term as well as long-term recovery of the soil system after fire events and on differences in this process between European and North American forests.

The LTC20058 project achieved its planned objectives, including the analysis of soil communities and chemical properties on the chronosequence of land after fires in Bohemian Switzerland NP and the United States. Samples from 160 plots were analyzed in 2020-23. As a result, four publications have been published, two are under review, and several others are in manuscript preparation dor printing.
