Screening for biological properties of extracts and chemically identified compounds prepared from twelve plants of traditional Chinese medicine has been done. Some samples possess prominent immunomodulatory activity. Notably, the medicinal plant Artemisia annua contains metabolites, including antimalarics artemisinin, which suppress the production of factors involved in cancer development.
