Producing composite nanofibers and its applications as reinforcement in composite systems
Project goals
The project is devoted to studying and producing of composite nanofiber materials and their following application. The studied nanofiber materials will be poly(vinyl-alcohol) (PVA) and poly(amide) (PA) ? as absolutely new material in our common research. The strengthening materials of the nanofibers will be mainly carbon nanotubes - both single (SWNTs) and multi walled (MWNTs) ones. The production of different types of electrospun nanofiber materials and mainly of composite electrospun nanofiber materials with carbon nanotubes will be the first part of the project, which corresponds to our last cooperation and experiences with production of composite nanofibers with PVA base. The application of the composite nanofibers in hybrid composites will be the other part of our research. The nanotubes will be dispersed in different solvents and these suspensions will be added to solved polymers. There will be investigated if materials are producible by electrospinning. From the best ones there will be made lar

Project results evaluation
Produced composite nanofibers were tested by SEM-EDS and Raman spectroscopy, which showed nanofibrous composite structure. The incorporation of these nanofibers into classical composites as a secondary reinforcement has brought significant improvement indynamic-mechanical properties.
