Studying molecular biologic responses to intensive insulin therapy during lung resections
Project goals
The aim is to confirm or deny the hypothesis that insulin affects diffusion capacity of lungs, probably due to an increased fluid capacity of alveolar capillaries. Simultaneously the microarray technology will be used to map the impact of insulin on transcriptomes of lung parenchyma and two cell lines. The results of this work should above all improve breathing in patients after lung resection.

Project results evaluation
The project helped to explain the influence of intravenous insulin treatment during pulm.resection and shortly after the resection, in relation to diff. pulm. capacity and blood gas values. Also, the changes in production of pulm.surfactant were defined
