Diagnostics and Therapy of Orofacial Pain

Project goals

The main objective of the project is to improve the diagnosis and options of orofacial pain (OB) treatment using transcranial stimulation (TS). Within the project the unique objective non-invasive non-contact thermal imaging of the affected area in the diagnosis and monitoring of OB dynamics response will be evaluated. Estimated distribution of electric current density will be based on 3D numerical simulation to optimize the stimulation parameters. Comparing the three types of TS and "sham" stimulations will result in selection of the most effective method of stimulation OB therapy. Results of the project will improve the quality of life and reduce the health burden of patients with pharmaco-resistant orofacial pain.

    Hlavním cílem projektu je zdokonalení diagnostiky a rozšíření možností léčby orofaciální bolesti (OB) pomocí transkraniální stimulace (TS). V rámci projektu bude vyhodnoceno unikátní použití objektivního bezkontaktního neinvazivního termovizního zobrazení postižení oblasti při diagnostice OB a sledování dynamiky léčebné odpovědi. Odhad distribuce elektrické proudové hustoty bude provedeno na základě 3D numerické simulace s cílem optimalizovat parametry stimulace. Porovnáním tří druhů TS a “sham” stimulace bude zvolena nejúčinnější stimulační metoda terapie OB. Výsledky projektu budou zlepšovat kvalitu života a snižovat zdravotní zátěž pacientů s farmako-rezistentní orofaciální bolestí.

    1. The scientific contribution of the project is the possible improvement of the diagnosis and extension of the treatment of orofacial pain with the aid of neurostimulation methods. was used to verify the stimulated area. Numerical simulations using a 3D model made it possible to control the accuracy of neurostimulation therapy. 2.The results reported by the investigator are relevant, the implanted publications are in line with the plan and expected objective of the project. The quality and the number of results correspond to the research plan and the overview of expected results. The results of the project confirmed the possibility of using a thermovision in the diagnosis of orofacial pain. The expected implementation date by the investigator is expected in 2020-2021. 3. The importance of the project is multidisciplinary, it will be used in the treatment of pain in dental surgery, in neurology, psychiatry, algesiology and will improve the use of neurostimulation methods in pain manag
