Enzymes for lignocellulose biorefineries from saprotrophic fungi

Project goals

The project is focused on the use of saprotrophic fungi for the production of enzymes applicable for lignocellulose transformation in biorefineries. Among these, mainly hydrolytic enzymes decomposing cellulose, hemicelluloses and pectin, esterases and ligninolytic oxidative enzymes will be studied. Enzyme activities will be screened in the cultures of saprotrophic fungi from soils and lignocellulose-rich substrates with the main emphasis on basidiomycetes. The aim is to obtain and characterise novel enzymes for the practical use in lignocellulose biotechnology.

V - Vynikající výsledky projektu (s mezinárodním významem atd.)

  • Project results evaluation

Production of extracellular enzymes relevant for the use in biorefineries was characterised both in the cultures of saprotrophic fungi and in the environmental metagenomes of forest soils. Production of relevant lignin and cellulose-degrading enzymes wasoptimised for selected fungal producers, the enzymes were purified and their biochemical characterization was performed.
