Project results evaluation
"As a result of the research, it was found that none of the alternative cartridges proposed so far will replace the 5.56x45 mm cartridge. The alternative cartridge does not have sufficient performance for assault rifles or infantry machine guns. The new .277 SIG Fury cartridge is too powerful for assault rifles. The 7.62x51mm NATO cartridge is still sufficient and optimal for use in universal machine guns. It is recommended to increase its performance in the future by using sub-caliber bullets (outperforming the .277 SIG Fury cartridge). In the case of a requirement to increase the effective firing distance, it is recommended to switch to the .338 NORMA Magnum cartridge for rifled machine guns. It will increase the range to almost double that of the 7.62x51mm cartridge. This is not recommended for infantry machine guns. The output and contribution of the Universal Machine Gun project is also the ""TTP Proposal"" for the development of a new universal machine gun for the Army.
