Completion of selection of perspective sweet cherry genotypes and trailing of their suitability for small tree forms on dwarf rootstocks

Project goals

Sweet cherries have been bred in the Czech republic for almost 30 years. The former selection of this fruit species was focused on production of the fruit for processing industry. Today there is an interest for production large fruit cherries for the fresh market. Genotypes within gean sweet cherry types with a fruit size above 7,5 g and biggareau sweet cherry types with fruit size above 9 g, firm fruit and good tree productivity from hitherto preselected material will be chosen. The research will be focused for testing of preselected genotypes on dwarf cherry rootstocks (belonging to the P-HLseries) in the nursery and for further evaluation of the material planted into orchard in the conditions with irrigation and without irrigation.
