Project results evaluation
The results of the project can be seen as beneficial. The technology of PLGA microparticles allows them to be used as an alternative means of inducing the formation of eggs and sperm in many economically important fish species. Test results have shown that the effect of this treatment is comparable with other hormonal preparations. The use of PLGA microparticles as a carrier for hormonal substances eliminates the need for repeated injections, thus improving fish welfare, which can be considered a key benefit of the project. In addition, when applying PLGA microparticles, it is possible to reduce the total effective dose of the hormone, which is usually very expensive to purchase. Another undeniable advantage is the fact that PLGA is approved by the US Food and Drug Administration and the European Medicines Agency. Both opponents rate the results of the project as good.
