Innovation of potato growing systems in buffer zones of water resources with reduced pesticide and fertilizer inputs resulting in water pollution reduction and preservation of potato growers’ competitiveness
Project goals
An innovation of potato growing systems will be realized in buffer zones with limited inputs of pesticides and fertilizers. This will result in reduction of water pollution and preservation of potato grower competitiveness. The innovation will be based on a replacement of plant protection products and fertilizers by sustainable procedures of growing. The procedures will be in compliance with principles of environmental protections.

Annotation in Czech
Inovovat systémy pěstování brambor v ochranných pásmech vodních zdrojů s omezenými vstupy pesticidů a hnojiv, které povedou ke snížení znečištění vody a zachovají konkurenceschopnost pěstitelů brambor. Inovace bude spočívat v náhradě přípravků na ochranu rostlin a hnojiv udržitelnými pěstitelskými postupy, které budou v souladu se zásadami ochrany životního prostředí.

Project results evaluation
The protection of water sources while maintaining the competitiveness of agricultural production in their vicinity is a relatively complex issue. For this reason, this is a highly topical project. Owing to restrictions on the use of pesticides, alternatives to growing potatoes need to be sought in areas that are traditionally devoted to the production of seed potatoes. Nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizers must be used correctly. Unfortunately, for objective reasons, these important objectives have not yet been achieved and must be fulfilled by the substitute deadline approved for the researcher. If the as yet incomplete V 5 and V 11 results are also achieved, the project can be evaluated as successful.
