<strong>FORD</strong> (Fields of Research and Development) <strong>classification system</strong> is a part of Frascati manual OECD. This system defines 6 wider and 42 narrower fields of research and development. These narrower fields are further divided to 3rd level (Detailed FORD). Branch classification system "CEP code table" has been using within the R&D Information System that is operated by the Government Office of the Czech Republic. It contains 123 branches denoted by two-letter codes, whereas these branches are grouped (by the first letter) into ten branch groups. The list of branches is available <a href="https://www.vyzkum.cz/RedirectorSekce.aspx?idsekce=1032" target="_blank" >here</a>. This classification system is used in the Central register of R&D projects of the Czech Republic and even in the Information Register of R&D results of the Czech Republic.

are defined and described in Frascati manual. These types of research are also in European legislation (2014/C 198/01) and the proportion of public support is linked on it.

<h4><strong>Applied research</strong></h4>

is original investigation undertaken in order to acquire new knowledge. It is, however, directed primarily towards a specific, practical aim or objective.
</p>

<h4><strong>Experimental development</strong></h4>
<p>
is systematic work, drawing on knowledge gained from research and practical experience and producing additional knowledge, which is directed to producing new products or processes or to improving existing products or processes.
</p>

<h4><strong>Research infrastructure</strong></h4>
<p>
means facilities, resources and related services that are used by the scientific community to conduct research in their respective fields and covers scientific equipment or set of instruments, knowledge-based resources such as collections, archives or structured scientific information, enabling information and communication technology-based infrastructures such as grid, computing, software and communication, or any other entity of a unique nature essential to conduct research. Such infrastructures may be ‘single-sited’ or ‘distributed’ (an organised network of resources).

<h4><strong>Innovation</strong></h4>

is introduction of a new, redesigned or substantially improved good or service.
</p>

<h4><strong>Non-industrial research</strong></h4>
<p>
is applied research without category of industrial research.
</p>

<h4><strong>Industrial research</strong></h4>
<p>
means the planned research or critical investigation aimed at the acquisition of new knowledge and skills for developing new products, processes or services or for bringing about a significant improvement in existing products, processes or services. It comprises the creation of components parts of complex systems, and may include the construction of prototypes in a laboratory environment or in an environment with simulated interfaces to existing systems as well as of pilot lines, when necessary for the industrial research and notably for generic technology validation.

<h4><strong>Basic research</strong></h4>
<p>
is experimental or theoretical work undertaken primarily to acquire new knowledge of the underlying foundations of phenomena and observable facts, without any particular application or use in view.
</p>
