The fact that, apart from Japan and South Korea, also the biggest US operators have launched their FTTx projects, proves that the era of deploying optical fibres in the access networks has started in earnest. The authors of the paper, as part of their activities in the framework of the European IST project BReATH (BRoadband e-services and Access for The Home) have gathered up-to-date information on the status and prospects of development of FTTx networks in the Czech Republic and in the world.

Skutečnost, že kromě Japonska a Jižní Korey rozjeli své projekty FTTx i největší telekomunikační operátoři v USA, potvrzuje, že již opravdu začala éra nástupu optiky do přístupových sítí. I v Evropě již byla realizována řada projektů, další jsou ve stadiu realizace. Autoři příspěvku v návaznosti na jejich aktivitu v FTTx Forum-czsk a v evropském projektu BReATH (BRoadband e-services and Access for The Home) shromáždili aktualizované údaje o stavu a perspektivách výstavby sítí FTTx v ČR a ve světě.
