CONFERENCE 2019 - SYSTEM OF COMPLEX SEM ANALYSES, NEW METHODS, INSTRUMENTATION AND IDEAS FOR ANALYSIS AND MICROSCOPY IN FORENSIC SCIENCE

  • Original language description

International conference dedicated to the solutions and results of the SEM project (Introduction of the system of complex SEM analyses-automated analysis of soil phases & RS in practice of expert service of PČR) VI20152020035, took place in the Spiritka building on 18 and 19 November 2019. The main goal of the VI20152020035 project is to improve, refine and streamline microanalytical methods, which are widely used in the expert practice of the Police of Czech Republic. The main areas are the introduction of a system of automatic mineralogical analysis of soil phases, Raman spectrometry, cathodoluminescence, post blast residues analysis and other microanalytical systems in the framework of complex analyzes performed using scanning electron microscopy. The implementation of these procedures allows for further refinement and detailed analysis in the field of analysis of pedological traces, post blast residues, fragments of glass and metal alloys, writing and printing tools and other types of micro traces. The system allows all necessary analyzes of inorganic and organic phase to be performed on a single device, from the same sample, place and point. The possibility of simultaneous analysis of organic and inorganic phases with high accuracy from a single microscopic particle represents a small revolution in current analytical practice and techniques find a very wide application. The conference was somewhat exceptional in the constellation of various forensic events, because, unlike many other events organized by groups such as ENFSI, it did not focus only on one specific field of traces, but dealt with a wide range of microscopic new techniques, procedures and innovations that currently find their application in the field of forensic science. The conference was also one of the few opportunities for KU and OKTE employees to become acquainted with the latest trends and procedures in the field of forensic microscopy. The conference was attended by 82 people from 18 countries (Czech Republic, Germany, Finland, Russia, Great Britain, Austria, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Georgia, and others). There were 23 lectures and an interactive poster section. From the lectures can be mentioned Somma Robert and Casabona Rosanna - How geology may help Judicial System to counteract environmental crimes, Vladimir Stebelkov - Application of SEM-EDX for forensic examination of nuclear and other radioactive materials, Dariusz Wilk - Non and micro-destructive techniques for forensic analysis of modern paints in artworks, Marta Barszcz and Krzysztof Woźniak- Forensic facial reconstruction based on images derived from post-mortem computed tomography acquisition and others. The conference was very well received and the participants appreciated both the professional level and the smooth organizational arrangements.
