Possibilities of cathodoluminescence in forensic analysis
Original language description
article in conference proceedings Kotrlý M., Turková I.: Possibilities of cathodoluminescence in forensic analysis. Proceedings 12th ANNUAL MEETING OF THE ENFSI APST WORKING GROUP, University of Pécs, Pécs, Hungary, p. 27, 2025. CL can be used with a special chamber on an optical microscope, allowing for the acquisition of colour images or the measurement of individual spectra. More sensitive systems are found on electron microscopes, which, depending on the type of detector, provide either monochromatic or colour images, or allow for the measurement of individual spectra using a spectrometer. For the investigation of mineral phases in soils, CL offers a range of possibilities for confirming or excluding the origin of the material. The individual spectrum, a set of spectra from one sample, or an image of the sample where certain characteristic textures can be used as "distinctive markers" in forensic material analysis (e.g., identifying mineral grains associated with specific locations).
