    Numerical simulation of a flow inside an exhaust diffuser

  • Original language description

    This paper presents numerical results of a flow inside an axial-radial exhaust diffuser. According to experiences, this type of diffuser can suffer from a separation of the flow on the outer curved wall. This fact reduces the effective flow rate which leads to an increase of losses. It was shown, that an additional blowing into the stream causes under certain conditions, that the flow remains attached to the wall and thus significantly reduces losses. The diffuser is represented by an axisymmetrical channel which bends ninety degrees from the axis. The flow inside the channel is described by RANS equations with a k-omega turbulence model. Besides a full three dimensional model, a simplified model utilizing the axisymmetry was used. The boundary condition on the inlet is given by a prescribed total pressure and total temperature. On the outlet boundary, a static pressure is prescribed. The jet-like inflow is given by a mass flow rate. Different parameters of the blowing were studied and
